Partnering with Colorado College to Strengthen the Educator Pipeline

Peak Education is collaborating with Colorado College on a new initiative aimed at addressing the educator shortage in our region. This partnership, supported by the Opportunity Now Colorado Planning Grant, focuses on building a more inclusive and sustainable pipeline of future educators.

Together, we are working to connect students—particularly those from historically underrepresented backgrounds—with early opportunities to explore teaching as a career. Through mentorship, programming, and exposure to the teaching profession, this initiative aims to prepare the next generation of educators to meet the evolving needs of our schools and communities.

“This planning grant is a vote of confidence from the State of Colorado for Peak Education and our esteemed partners in collectively addressing the educational workforce gap,” says Carlos Jiménez, Peak Education’s Chief Executive Officer, in an interview with Colorado College Alexa Gromko writer.

The grant will also support the development of new educator pathways and apprenticeship programs in Southern Colorado. These efforts are designed to increase graduation rates for aspiring educators and create more direct, streamlined routes into teaching. The collective is exploring innovative solutions such as increasing educator pay with philanthropic support, offering differentiated housing options, and building more flexible models of instruction.

The project also brings together voices from business, education, and community sectors to align strategies and ensure long-term impact.
