Etelin Tapia’s path from uncertainty to confidence is a story of perseverance, community, and mentorship. Growing up in Colorado Springs as the daughter of immigrant parents, Etelin didn’t know much about college. Her parents, who hadn’t completed high school, couldn’t guide her through the complexities of the U.S. education system. But everything changed when she joined Peak Education in seventh grade, "before Peak Education, I didn’t know college was even possible for someone like me," Etelin says. "But they gave me the tools and support I needed, not just for school, but for believing in myself."A turning point came when Etelin, in the middle of applying to colleges, was ready to give up. She didn’t think she could make it. But her Peak Education mentor, Ms. Rainey, saw potential in her that Etelin couldn’t see in herself. "She told me, 'You can do this,' and she didn’t let me walk away," Etelin remembers. "That made all the difference."Now a business major at Colorado College, Etelin looks back on how far she’s come. With Peak Education’s support, she learned to overcome self-doubt and embrace a future she once thought was out of reach. Beyond academics, Etelin credits Peak Education with teaching her the importance of community. Growing up surrounded by family and close-knit support, she now hopes to give back by working with nonprofits and helping others who face similar challenges."Peak Ed wasn’t just a program," she says. "It became a family. They showed me that I’m worthy of success—and that’s something I’ll carry with me forever."
