Peak Education was founded in 1998 by Dr. H. Dalton Conner and Steven U. Mullens, two successful businessmen disturbed about the murders of two young students in a deteriorating neighborhood of Colorado Springs. Wanting to give hope and an opportunity to deserving but exposed youth in a community overwhelmed with gangs and a reputation for low academic achievement, they focused their efforts on youth development and academic achievement. Seeking the expertise of respected and experienced community leaders, the first Board of Directors was formed and given the task of launching an effective program.

With Dalton as the volunteer Executive Director and an engaged Board of Directors, Peak Education has evolved into a successful youth development program with a backbone that matches talented community members with at-risk students to mentor them from seventh grade through college.  Peak Education's significant depth and breadth in programming and a dedication to excellence is helping many vulnerable youth achieve success in both college and life.

Dalton, Steve and the Board of Directors continue to believe that when enough students in the community embrace a positive vision, a tipping point will occur, bringing change to the face of a neighborhood. A strong Board of Directors, community leaders, committed volunteers and many community collaborations are changing the lives of our youth.

This past year, Peak Education saw its first two participants graduate from college. Currently, there are 17 participants pursing degrees while 53 others in middle school and high school are preparing for the same success as the first two participants.

"Peak Education has been a part of my family's life during the last 11 years. They have understood our circumstances and challenges. They game me opportunities and experiences that my mom, as a single mother, couldn't provide. I could not have finished college without the help of Peak Education." -Chris, Peak Graduate
